14 Dogs Test Positive for Rabies in Denpasar

SUARA NEGERI | BALI — Positive cases of rabies in dogs in Denpasar continue to increase. As of July 14, 2025, the number of positive rabies cases reached 14 since January 2025.

To suppress the spread, the Denpasar City Agriculture Office is administering rabies vaccinations to animals that transmit rabies, particularly dogs.

This was announced by the Head of the Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Division of the Denpasar City Agriculture Office, Dr. Ni Made Suparmi.

She stated that her office has vaccinated 54,351 dogs in Denpasar.

"As of July 14, we have vaccinated 54,351 dogs, equivalent to 65.84 percent of the population," she explained.

The recorded dog population in 2025 was 82,545.

"We are targeting rabies vaccination coverage of 91.2 percent of the population by the end of 2025," he added.

This way, positive rabies cases can be reduced and Denpasar can return to zero rabies.

In addition to door-to-door vaccination, the Denpasar City Agriculture Office is also involving villages and sub-districts by forming a Rabies Alert Team (Tisara). Through this team, data on dog and other animal species (HPR) populations will be collected.

Furthermore, the banjar community, as the frontline, will also be involved in providing information regarding HPR and dog bite cases. This will allow for ongoing, intensive monitoring.

"From this data collection, we will obtain population data, from community ownership to the presence of stray dogs, so that the spread of rabies can be suppressed," said AA Gde Bayu Brahmasta, Head of the Denpasar City Agriculture Office.

Bayu hopes the public will also pay attention to proper dog care. This is because rabies management will be more optimal by involving the participation and synergy of the community, including hamlets and neighborhoods in Denpasar City. (*)
