Governor Ahmad Luthfi Successfully Initiates Kuala Lumpur, Followed by Flight Routes to Singapore, China, and Jeddah

SUARA NEGERI | JAKARTA — Following the successful initiation of the international flight from A. Yani Airport, the Semarang-Kuala Lumpur route, by Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi, several other routes will be opened. The next step is the addition of an airline to Kuala Lumpur, followed by the opening of a route to Singapore.

AirAsia's Semarang-Kuala Lumpur route will be launched daily starting September 5, 2025. It departs Kuala Lumpur at 9:25 a.m. and departs Semarang at 11:15 a.m.

Regional CEO IV of PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, Rahadian D Yogisworo, stated that flight connectivity to ASEAN countries will continue to expand. In addition to its tourism potential, such as Borobudur and Prambanan, Central Java also boasts several industrial areas.

"We hope to have a Semarang-Singapore flight in November," he said during the Semarang-Kuala Lumpur Inaugural Flight at Ahmad Yani Airport, Semarang, Friday, September 5, 2025.

Meanwhile, Fajar Purwawidada, General Manager of Angkasa Pura Airport's Ahmad Yani International Airport branch in Semarang, announced that Scoot would open a Semarang-Singapore route.

At about the same time, Malindo Airlines also opened a Semarang-Kuala Lumpur route, but in the afternoon.

"Malindo will open a Semarang-Kuala Lumpur route in the afternoon in October or November 2025. Scoot will open a Semarang-Singapore route," Fajar said.

Fajar also revealed that Governor Ahmad Luthfi is pushing for the opening of other routes, both direct and indirect, to Ahmad Yani Airport.

He explained that there has also been a request from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) to open routes to China and Jeddah. For flights to China, preliminary discussions have been held with AirAsia. "If direct flights are not possible, indirect flights via Singapore or Kuala Lumpur will continue to Guangzhou or other cities in China," he explained.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Taj Yasin Maimoen stated that the Central Java Provincial Government has proposed extending the runway at A Yani Airport. The hope is that large aircraft from European countries will be able to operate direct flights to A Yani International Airport. (*)
